The Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) Advisory Committee remains encouraged by our region’s low COVID-19 transmission rate, however, now that our communities are well into Stage 2 of the reopening framework the Committee also wants to continue to emphasize the importance for residents and businesses to continue to be extra cautious and vigilant to reduce the risk of COVID-19 community spread.

On June 11, 2020 the EOC Advisory Committee issued a public statement strongly recommending that face coverings be used by the general public, especially in situations when it isn’t possible to keep a physical distance of at least two metres.

Face coverings include non-medical masks often made of cloth. Surgical masks and N-95 respirators are critical supplies that should continue to be reserved for frontline health care workers and other medical first responders.

Today, the EOC Advisory Committee announced support for the enactment of a proposed by-law requiring masks and face coverings in indoor public spaces and public transit for the protection of the health, safety and well-being of residents to both the City of Brantford and County of Brant respective municipal Councils to consider at their (separate) virtual Special City Council meetings to be held simultaneously on Tuesday July 14, 2020 at 6 p.m.

To register as a delegation to speak to this item at Brantford City Council, please refer to the City’s website which explains the new electronic and protective processes in place as well as steps and options to provide public input.
