June construction activity in Brantford remains strong

BRANTFORD, ON – Today, the City released its June 2019 Report on Construction Activity demonstrating a construction value of $14.597 million for issued permits. The construction value in June is higher than the previous four years, and surpasses the past five-year average for the month of June.

The largest increase occurred in the new Single Detached Dwellings with a total of thirty-eight building permits and a total construction value of $11.194 million. The highest valued permit was issued to a numbered company to create dwelling units within the former St. Jude’s Church at 81 Peel Street, which had a construction value of $1.0 million.

Increases also occurred in Residential with a total of sixty-one building permits, with a construction value of $2.050 million compared to eighty-eight building permits and a total construction value of $1.684 million in June 2018. Other noteworthy building permits issued in June include a permit to complete alterations within a manufacturing building located at 111 Easton Road, which had a construction value of $0.80 million and a permit to complete alterations within the former Sears unit at Lynden Park Mall, with a construction value of $0.20 million. A total of 573 building permits have been issued to date this year, with a total construction value of $80.383 million, well above last year’s to date total of $59.377 million.
