Brantford-Brant Affordable Housing Mentorship Program

Under the Mayors’ Housing Partnerships Task Force, the Brantford-Brant Affordable Housing Development Mentorship Program aims to connect people with specialized knowledge and skills-sets with those who are looking for this support, in order to develop more affordable housing options in the City of Brantford and the County of Brant.

There are many different parts to developing affordable housing and often these “knowledge components” are spread across different people and professions. The Brantford-Brant Affordable Housing Development Mentorship Program aims to connect people with specialized knowledge and skill sets with those who are looking for this support, in order to develop more affordable housing options in the City of Brantford and County of Brant.

The goals of this program are to:

  • Ignite passion and interest in housing development
  • Build strategic networks
  • Enhance knowledge and leadership competencies in core areas
  • Increase housing sector development capacity

If you are interested in participating in the program, please complete our Mentorship Survey to help us better understand the organizations and groups interested in developing more affordable housing so we can match resources, specialized skills and experiences with those who want this support.

 Mentor
A mentor has a specialized set of skills and/or experiences in developing affordable housing. This could include development consultants, planners, contractors, builders, housing managers, or board directors. Skills could include knowledge/experience of governance, housing policy, asset management and development, operations, service delivery, and business skills in finance, legal, human resources, technology, strategic planning and organizational development.
 Mentee
A mentee has an interest in developing affordable housing but is new to the housing world and/or wants to learn skills in a specific area.
Please complete the Mentorship survey to give us a better understanding of your interests. City of Brantford Housing Programs staff will keep an inventory of those interested in being mentors or mentees, and help make the matches and introductory connections. Matched mentors and mentees then can use a sample agreement to develop their own set of expectations regarding the extent and length of involvement.
