Rain Barrels

To protect the health and safety of our citizens and staff,  the City of Brantford’s Mohawk Street Landfill Site will no longer be accepting cash until further notice. Visitors will still be permitted to pay through debit, VISA, and Mastercard (American Express is not accepted).

The City of Brantford offers rain barrels year-round at the Mohawk Street Landfill. Barrels are $53 per unit, including tax. The landfill is open Monday to Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

You can use rain barrels for household needs, such as:

  • Watering your lawn, plants and garden.
  • Washing your car.
  • Cleaning outdoor furniture.
  • Washing garden tools and containers.

A new rain barrel model is available. See instructions to install your rain barrel.

You can also save more water when you connect multiple barrels.

Recall of 4-foot overflow hose

Overflow hoses supplied with rain barrels before August 23, 2018, are only 4 feet long. They should be 8 feet long for proper water collection. You can get your free replacement hose from the Mohawk Street Landfill.

  • Make sure that the platform is always stable.

Winter:

  • Drain the barrel and store it in a safe place.
  • Don't leave it out to freeze as it may crack.
