Bulk Item Pick Up

 

Please note that furniture, appliances or other bulk items cannot be put out for collection with your regular household garbage. However, we are pleased to provide a free pick up service for these items. With seven days' notice, you can schedule a bulk item pick up online.

If you’re a city resident, you can schedule a free pick up of your bulk items with seven days’ notice.

You can request this pick up at your curbside twice a year:

  1. January to June (once only)
  2. July to December (once only)

Preparing for your bulk item pick up 

  • Make sure to bag, bundle or tie all small or loose materials
  • Remove or securely fix doors on all appliances and make sure that they are empty
  • Keep all waste material, yard waste, and metal and blue box items separate
  • Mattresses and box springs must be wrapped in plastic in order to be collected at the curb

This service is not available to businesses that use the City’s collection contractor for garbage collection.

Construction, renovation or demolition materials
Construction, renovation or demolition materials are not eligible for a bulk item pick-up and are not collected at the curb. You can bring these materials to the Mohawk Street Landfill Site for proper disposal. Tipping fees will apply.
Refrigeration appliances
Make sure that a licensed refrigerant handler tags all refrigeration appliances. This should show that they no longer contain any refrigerant materials (CFCs like Freon). We will not collect any refrigeration appliances that do not have tags.
Metal playground equipment and fencing

When disposing of any metal playground equipment and fencing, make sure to:

  • Break down any metal swing sets, slides, etc.
  • Cut all metal pipes into 1.2m (4 feet) lengths or less
  • Cut all metal posts into lengths of 1.2m (4 feet) or less
  • Bundle all metal fencing materials to a maximum length of 1.5m (5 feet) and a diameter of 0.9m (3 feet) or less
Wood materials

Please remove, or bend over, all nails and screws to ensure everyone’s safety. We do not collect any loose wood material. Make sure to:

  • Bundle and tie all wood materials securely remove all wooden fence posts 
  • Keep all bundles to 1.2m (4 feet) or less in length and have a maximum diameter of less than 0.9m (3 feet)
  • Break down any scrap wood, including wood fencing, wooden skids, and picnic tables into lengths of 1.2m (4 feet) or less
Broken glass and window panes
Please cover all broken glass and windowpanes with cardboard or box them. Please mark as “Broken Glass” to ensure safe handling.
Carpets and pool covers and liners
Roll and tie all carpets and pool covers and liners to a length of 1.2m (4 feet) or less and maximum diameter of 0.6m (2 feet).

Collection of personal information related to bulk item pick up requests

Personal information collected to service a Bulk Item Pick Up Request is collected under the authority of Section 10(1) of the Municipal Act, 2001, S.O. 2001, c.25, as amended and will be used to contact you concerning your service request/inquiry to the City of Brantford. Electronic equipment

You may take electronic equipment (Computers, monitors, televisions, printers, VCR/DVD players, etc.) to the Mohawk Street Landfill for disposal free of charge.

Household Hazardous Waste will not be collected curbside by the City of Brantford. You may dispose of this type of material during Hazardous Waste Day Events at the Mohawk Street Landfill .

The following materials will not be collected curbside and may be taken to the Mohawk Street Landfill  for disposal. Tipping fees will apply:

  • Tires (on or off rim are free of charge)
  • Construction waste and building materials such as concrete, asphalt, bricks, drywall, railway ties, etc.
  • Furnaces, hot tubs, etc.

You can also use a local recycler to dispose of these items.
