Let's Get Moving

The City of Brantford, and its community partners, are pleased to launch the City’s sixth annual Let’s Get Moving campaign featuring a variety of free activities to encourage older adults to keep active throughout the month of October.

Space is limited and registration is required by emailing partnerships@brantford.ca or by calling 519-759-4150 ext. 5986 and leaving a message with your name, contact information and which activities you would like to attend.

Let’s Try Introductory Tai Chi 

Date(s): October 5, 12, 19 and 26
Time: 10:00 a.m- 11:00 a.m.
Location: Doug Snooks Eagle Place Community Centre333 Erie Avenue.

Join Frank Tabuns for an introduction to Qigong and Tai Chi. This gentle form of exercise can help to improve your balance, muscle tone, and mental well-being. 

Let’s Try SAFE ZONE 

Date(s): October 4, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, and 30
Time: 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Location: Boys and Girls Club, 20 Edge Street.

Join S.A.F.E. ZONE, in a senior falls prevention exercise program designed to help keep people living independently in their own homes. No registration is required. Please arrive by 11:00 a.m.

Let’s Try Chair Yoga 

Date(s): October 13, 20, and 27
Time: 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. 
Location: T.B Costain- SC Johnson Community Centre, 16 Morrell Street.

Modo Yoga Brant will present a gentle and accessible yoga sequence that will stretch and awaken tired joints and muscles all with the support of a chair. 

Let’s Get Active in Aging

Date(s): October 20 and 30
Time: 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Location: October 20 program will be held at T.B Costain-SC Johnson Community Centre, 16 Morrell Street. The October 30 program will be held at Woodman Park Community Centre, 491 Grey Street

Join Golden Age Management for an exercise program with an Active Aging certified instructor. This accessible class offers appropriate modifications for participants of all needs, skills, and abilities. The class is design to support older adults in independence and longevity with a focus on posture, balance, and functional movement. After the engaging exercises, participants are welcome to take part in social activities that activate the mind.

Let’s Get International Dancing

Date(s): on October 11, 18, and 25
Time: 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Location: Woodman Park Community Centre, 491 Grey Street

Join International Dance instructor, Adam Kossowski, to get up and get moving by learning line and circle dances from around the world. This is a great low impact exercise. You do not need to know how to dance and you do not need a partner to participate.  

Let’s Try a Pottery Class
Date: October 23
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Location: Smak Dab Pottery, 432 Colborne Street

Roll up your sleeves, get up on your feet and join Smak Dab Pottery to learn about the history of clay, engage in a new skill and create your own unique project. Lunch to be provided.
