Healthy Kids Brantford-Brant Passport to Health

BRANTFORD, ON – Kids and families in Brantford and the County of Brant are invited to participate in the Healthy Kids Brantford-Brant Passport to Health. The free program runs from March 14 to 29, 2020 and connects children to recreational and cultural events throughout the City and County.

Over 20 community partners in Brantford and the County of Brant are offering more than 150 free activities to allow children, ages 0 to 14, with some programs up to 18 years old, the opportunity to try new activities like boxing, dancing, music lessons, taekwondo and more. Kids can participate in as many activities as they want to receive stamps in their passports. Completed passports can be entered for the chance to win a free bicycle or helmet.

Learn more about the activities the Passport to Health has to offer in our Healthy Kids Brantford-Brant Passport to Health video that features community champions City of Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis and Krista Duchene alongside our Healthy Kids ambassadors.

“As an active grandfather, I know the importance of the Healthy Kids program,” says Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis. “I am very excited to once again be a champion of such an important initiative that promotes both the physical and mental well-being of children in our community.

The passports also include an introduction to the upcoming Healthy Kids, Healthy Planet initiative set to launch in April 2020. Healthy Kids, Healthy Planet focuses on promoting eco-friendly practices and healthy living. The program is set to launch just in time for the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.

Passports will be distributed at local schools and daycare centres. Each child requires their own passport as their ticket to each activity. Additional passports can be picked up at any community centre or library branch in Brantford as well as the Social Services office at 220 Colborne Street. Passports are also available at the County of Brant Community Services office at 15 Curtis Ave N., Paris. Kids, ages 0 to 12, can ride Brantford Transit for free anytime, making it easier for families to get to activity locations.

Since 2016, the Passport to Health program has proven to be an effective way to successfully connect kids to discover new activities they may not have otherwise tried. The Healthy Kids program continues to demonstrate significant success in changing the culture of children’s health within the community through innovative projects, partnerships and awareness campaigns. Parents whose children have participated in the Healthy Kids program reported improvements in their child’s motivation to participate in physical activity, eat healthy foods, and drink more water.

About Healthy Kids Brantford-Brant

The popular Healthy Kids programs have been implemented across our communities with different themes such as Run. Jump. Play. Everyday! that launched in September 2015 to encourage physical activity. Water Does Wonders! was added in July 2016 to highlight the importance of drinking water instead of sugar-sweetened beverages and in April 2017, Choose to Boost Veggies and Fruit! increased awareness of nutrition and healthy eating. Most recently, in January 2018, Power Off and Play! encouraged children to reduce screen time in favour of healthier and more active experiences. The Healthy Kids project team has worked with over 200 community partner agencies and businesses to offer and help implement programming across each of the themes.
