New lighting system illuminates Brantford City Hall in support of meaningful causes

City Hall lit in purple and blue

BRANTFORD, ON: In a display of civic support for important causes, Brantford City Hall is proud to announce the installation of a new lighting system designed to raise awareness and foster community spirit. On Thursday, October 19th, at 7:30 p.m., Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis and Councillor Linda Hunt officially unveiled the new lighting system by illuminating City Hall in purple and blue to recognize National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM).

As a part of the City’s core values to foster inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility, we are proud to join cities across Canada on Thursday, October 19th as part of Light It Up! for National Disability Employment Awareness Month. NDEAM takes place nationwide every October to promote and celebrate the inclusion of people with disabilities in the workplace and to recommit to eliminating barriers in employment.

The new City Hall lighting system marks a significant milestone in Brantford's commitment to promoting awareness and unity within the community. With the capacity to project a spectrum of vibrant colors, City Hall's facade will serve as a canvas for a number of causes, celebrations, and commemorations.

Mayor Kevin Davis expressed his enthusiasm about this new initiative, stating, "Brantford City Hall has always been a symbol of our community's unity and strength. With this innovative lighting system, we can now use it to shine a light on the causes that matter most to our citizens and I look forward to the positive impact it will have on our city."

Councillor Linda Hunt, a dedicated accessibility advocate, added, "It's fitting that our first lighting ceremony is for National Disability Employment Awareness Month. This new system will provide us with a dynamic way to raise awareness for various issues that impact our community. It's a symbol of Brantford's commitment to inclusion and support for all our residents."

The new lighting system is expected to create a sense of community pride and togetherness as it illuminates the heart of the city during significant events and causes throughout the year.
