BRANTFORD, ON – Residents are invited to enjoy a variety of free and low-cost activities, such as yoga, pickleball, darts, swimming and more to celebrate Recreation and Parks and Seniors’ Month this June in the City of Brantford. Activities will be available from June 3 to 30, 2023 with a full list of programs and details available online at www.Brantford.ca/ParksMonth.

“I’m pleased to see staff offer a wide variety of recreational programming as we know staying active can play a significant role in building stronger communities, fostering physical and emotional well-being, and creating safe places for play and fitness,” says Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis. “In an effort to ensure everyone has the opportunity to access recreation and try new and fun activities, there is free programming for individuals of all ages throughout the City.”

Kids aged 7 to 12 will love Splash and Fun where they can participate in fun games and activities in the gymnasium at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre followed by a splash in the pool. Kids aged 4 to 12 can enjoy a night out with friends at Kids Night Out where they participate in staff-led crafts, games, spots and more! There’s also Toonie swims, drop-in sports such as basketball, pickleball and so much more. Residents can try something new while staying active with one of the City’s free fitness classes such as yoga, pool fitness, Dancefit and more. Free activities geared to older adults include carpet bowling, darts, euchre and pickleball.

“Our parks team is working hard every day to make sure our parks and playgrounds are in good shape for everyone to enjoy,” says Rick Cox, Director of Parks and Facilities Services for the City of Brantford. “Whether it’s on the trails or one of the City’s sports fields, there are many great opportunities for active recreation. We’ve recently opened up our refurbished pickleball and tennis courts at the Steve Brown Sports Complex for drop-in play, and the Rotary Bike Park is now open.”
