Public Encouraged to attend the Mohawk Lake District celebration

BRANTFORD, ON – Today the City announced plans to invite the community to a special event to celebrate the completion of the Greenwich Mohawk Brownfield remediation project and to look ahead to the future development of the Mohawk Lake District.

The event, hosted by the City’s Brownfields Community Advisory Committee (BCAC), will take place on Sunday, September 29, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Mohawk Park located at 51 Lynwood Drive. The afternoon will kick off with the Brantford Town Crier and feature City Council members and local champion guest speakers. Exhibits and speakers will commemorate the history of the Greenwich Mohawk Brownfield site and present future development plans for the Mohawk Lake District.

“My late husband, Dave Belleville started BCAC in 2002 and was an advocate in the clean-up of the Greenwich Mohawk Brownfield site,” says Janice Belleville, Vice-Chair of the Brownfields Community Advisory Committee (BCAC). “I am proud to have dedicated many years on the committee in his honour and look forward to celebrating the future development of the Mohawk Lake District.”

On September 29th, attendees can look forward to musical guest performance by Brantford’s own Brownfield band, period actors from the early 1900s, free giveaways, complimentary food and drinks, and unique displays featuring classic and antique cars, trucks and tractors.

The celebration, in partnership with the Brantford Food Bank is a featured event of this year’s Culture Days weekend of events, taking place from September 27-29th, 2019.

All are welcome to the family friendly event where attendees are asked to bring a non-perishable food donation in support of the Brantford Food Bank.
