Public’s patience appreciated as storm cleanup efforts continue

Parkside tree down

As National Public Works Week (NPWW) came to a close this past weekend, Mother Nature reminded us how vital our Public Works crews are to keeping our city operating 24 hours a day/7 days a week. A huge shout and sincere thanks to our hard working Operational Services and Forestry crews who worked into the night Saturday and Sunday to remove wind storm debris from roadsides and sidewalks, following Saturday’s extreme wind and rain event. Thanks also to Brantford Police Services, Brantford Fire and GrandBridge Energy staff who responded swiftly to emergency requests related to downed power lines and road blockages.

We recognize that many residents were impacted by the storm and that there are still trees and branches on sidewalks, roads, and residential properties. To facilitate clearing, please place large branches on the boulevards. If residents are able to transport debris, the Mohawk Street landfill is open for free drop off of leaf and yard waste Monday-Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information please visit: Brantford.ca/landfill.

For residence clean up, smaller quantities of leaf and yard waste or brush can be cut and bundled and set out on regular garbage day as per the City’s standard waste collection processes.

If there are larger tree issues on your property, please enlist qualified individuals/companies to ensure the clearing work is carried out safely. Use of chainsaws and cutting overhead tree limbs can be dangerous and should only be done by trained and qualified individuals.

To report downed trees/debris blocking roads, sidewalks and trails please call 519-759-4150 and press 7 to reach the City's after hours call centre. We ask for the public’s continued patience as crews continue working to address a large backlog of requests. Thank you.
