Riverside Fire Safety Week

City Hall

On Friday, May 15, 2020 at 1:10 p.m. the residents of the City owned housing site, Riverside Gardens, are asked to test their smoke/carbon monoxide detectors to run a community wide test and make some noise to give thanks to our first responders working tirelessly to protect and keep the community safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the test, the City’s Housing staff and Platinum Fire will provide batteries and change smoke/carbon monoxide detectors as required.

Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis will be in attendance, and Brantford Fire, Brantford Police Services as well as Emergency Medical Services will be on site sounding their truck and cruiser alarms to signal the beginning of the event at 1:00 p.m.

Families are encouraged to use the bristol board and crayons provided by the City’s Housing staff to make signs thanking first responders. Other activities have been distributed to residents in the area such as fire escape plans. Brantford Family and Children’s Services staff have also provided fire related educational materials and activities for the children to complete at home.

Riverside Garden neighbours are also asked to show their support for First Responders, by displaying signs of support and making noise by  testing their own smoke alarms.

All tenants of Riverside Gardens are asked to stay in their units or on their own stoops or yard, respecting physical distancing at all times throughout the duration of the event.

Residents are also reminded to check their smoke alarms on a monthly basis to ensure they are working properly.
