The City hosts Intro to Powertools class in partnership with Organized Kaos

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford, in partnership with Organized Kaos, invites youth ages 12 to 18 to participate in a free hands-on Youth EmPOWERment Intro to Power Tools Class on Saturday, January 7, 2023. Registration is required by emailing partnerships@brantford.ca.

“We are thrilled to partner with a local community organization to deliver programming that provides an opportunity for youth to develop new skills and interests,” says Amy Brandt, Community Development Coordinator for the City of Brantford. “This will be a fun and hands-on approach to learning and will support youth to explore an interest in a skilled trade.”

This free hands-on event will be held at Woodman Park Community Centre, located at 491 Grey Street, will give youth 12 to 18 an opportunity to learn how to use power tools, hand tools and develop math skills to build their own birdhouse. Professionals from Organized Kaos will show students how to safely use a mitre saw, bandsaw, impact driver, drill and tape measure. Tools and safety gear will be provided. Lunch will be provided to all participants from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Two time slots are available from 9:00 am. to 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration is required by emailing each participants name and age, preferred time slot and any dietary restrictions to partnerships@brantford.ca. Space is limited. Waivers will be required.

Enhancing access to youth social and recreation programming through the community centres and neighbourhood-based programs is a key component of the City's Empowering Youth Strategy, which was approved by Council in January 2022. These activities will provide an opportunity for youth to develop new skills, and explore new interests and make new social connections which can help to improve overall wellbeing.
