The City of Brantford collaborates with muralist to host Community Peace Mural Workshops

Community Peace Mural Workshops

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford is inviting community members to participate in a series of upcoming workshops to create a collaborative Community Peace Mural to be located on the wall to the right of the stairs ascending from the Market St. Parkade to Colborne St. E.

As a member of the UNESCO Coalition of Inclusive Municipalities, the City of Brantford and Wilfrid Laurier University collaboratively developed the Inclusive Community Plan that includes three guiding principles: learn from each other, stand up for each other, and celebrate each other.

To put these principles into action, the theme for this project is “unity through our differences, celebrating the real human stories behind our increasingly diverse community”. Community members will be invited to share stories and imagery that symbolize their unique identities, cultures, and experiences for incorporation into the final design of the mural.

“We encourage community members from all walks of life to participate in these mural workshops,” says Laura Almeida, Administrative and Project Coordinator for the City of Brantford. “This mural is intended to celebrate the growing diversity within our community by incorporating visuals that symbolize different backgrounds coming together in peace and unity.”

The workshops will be led by professional muralist and workshop facilitator, Yasaman Mehrsa, an Iranian-Canadian visual artist with a focus on public art. Yasaman has worked on various public art projects for organizations and communities and has extensive experience with community art consultation and public art engagement.

All workshops will be held at Community Living – The Dunn Building, 440 Elgin St. on the following dates:
