Todd Binkley appointed new City of Brantford Fire Chief

BRANTFORD, ON – The City is pleased to announce that Todd Binkley has been appointed by City Council as the new Fire Chief for the City of Brantford. 

Todd has been a member of the Brantford Fire Department since 1999. He has served as a Firefighter, Assistant Training Officer, Captain, Deputy Fire Chief and most recently as Acting Fire Chief since May 2020. Todd earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration - Emergency Services from Lakeland College and his Public Fire Protection Diploma from Manitoba Emergency Services College.

As Deputy Fire Chief and Acting Fire Chief since April 2020, Todd has demonstrated progressive leadership built on decades of experience in the fire service, and an educational background that also includes an Executive Diploma in Municipal Management.

As Chief, Todd will lead and manage overall operations of the Brantford Fire Department including fire suppression, staff training, emergency management, fire prevention, public education, mechanical, dispatch/communications, and fire service facilities.

Chief Binkley is also a member of the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs (CAFC) Diversity and Inclusion, Mental and Physical Health, Dangerous Goods, Industry and Infrastructure and Building Code Committees as well as the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs (OAFC) Urban Advisory Committee.

In an announcement today Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis said, “I know I speak for Council when I say how pleased we are to have Chief Binkley officially take on this role permanently. He is highly regarded in his field and his depth of experience combined with his demonstrated decades of leadership will be significant assets to the City’s Fire services.”

Chief Binkley looks forward to advancing the goals of Brantford Fire saying, “I am honoured to lead an outstanding group of fire service professionals that are focused on delivering the highest quality educational, preventative, communication and emergency response services possible to the community. Together, we will continue the proud history of providing fire service excellence to the citizens of Brantford.”

Chief Binkley’s appointment is effective August 25, 2020.
