Upcoming Fire Training Exercise in the County of Brant

Upcoming Fire Training Exercise in the County of Brant

On Saturday, November 9, 2019, you may notice smoke near Oak Park Road in the County of Brant. The County of Brant Fire Department will be burning two houses as part of a controlled fire training exercise.

“The houses offer an excellent training opportunity for our fire crews to practice in a real-life setting,” said Fire Chief Geoff Hayman with the County of Brant.

The County of Brant was approached by the new property owners who plan to develop the industrial area and offered the vacant houses for a fire training exercise.

“Their generosity provides a rare occasion for live firefighting in a real building where they can practice a number of drills and fire suppression techniques,” said Hayman. “This type of training saves lives for both citizens and Firefighters. We are grateful for this opportunity.”

All harmful materials have been removed from the houses to ensure Firefighters, neighbours and the environment are not unnecessarily exposed to harmful toxins. This is also a requirement of the County of Brant bylaws and the Ministry of Environment regulations.

If you have any questions about the upcoming training exercise, please call the County of Brant Fire Administration team at 519-442-4500.
