Ward 1 Councillor Rick Weaver announces resignation from City Council

Coucillor Rick Weaver

BRANTFORD, ON: It is with deep sadness that Brantford City Council acknowledges the resignation of Rick Weaver from his position as City of Brantford Ward 1 Councillor.

Rick was first elected to Brantford City Council in December 2014 and has been a respected and committed member of Council throughout his tenure. Having been elected to two consecutive terms, Rick has led and advocated for many important projects that have benefited our community as a whole.

An avid cyclist, Rick championed the creation of the state-of-the-art Brantford Rotary Bike Park that has become an attraction in the city, providing a safe space for cyclists of all ages and skill levels to practice their skills. Together with his former Ward mate, Larry Kings, Rick also worked to successfully expand the Southwest Task Force (formerly Shellard Lane Task Force) to ensure public input was provided to inform the development of the Southwest Community Centre and Park.

Rick also passionately advocated for the adoption of Vision Zero Road Safety in the City of Brantford - an initiative with a clear goal of zero fatalities or serious injuries on city roadways.

Serving as Chair and Vice Chair of Social Services Committee, Councillor Weaver’s focus on social services, shelter and affordable housing has provided a strong foundation for future funding and development across the city to support the city’s most vulnerable citizens.

The City is sincerely grateful to Rick for his exemplary service to the citizens of Brantford, and extend our very best wishes to him and his family at this challenging time, while Rick continues to focus on his health.

Brantford City Council has declared Councillor Weaver’s seat vacant at tonight’s City Council meeting. The Municipal Act permits Brantford City Council sixty days to make their decision on how they intend to fill the vacancy.
