Wheels on the Pavement celebrates National Public Works Week with Hands-on Fun

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford is inviting residents to the fifth annual Wheels on the Pavement event on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the Brantford and District Civic Centre (79 Market Street South) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This family-friendly event offers a unique opportunity for attendees to see, touch and explore an exciting lineup of City and emergency services vehicles. From front loaders and snowplows to fire trucks and police cruisers, kids and adults alike will enjoy getting up close with the big rigs that help keep the City running.

“The City of Brantford is proud to celebrate National Public Works Week and highlight the skill and dedication of our Public Works and Emergency Services teams at this annual event,” says Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis. “I encourage residents to come out and see firsthand how these professionals contribute to the daily operations and safety of our community.”

Hosted in celebration of National Public Works Week, the event is presented in partnership with the Downtown Central, Holmedale, Eagle Place and East Ward Echo Place Neighbourhood Associations and will feature hands-on activities, demonstrations, and fun for the whole family. The theme for National Public Works Week in 2025 is “People, Purpose, Presence” which highlights three key principles that drive Public Works professionals to serve their communities every day.

Wheels on the Pavement is a family-friendly event that provides opportunities to speak to skilled Public Works staff and see, touch and explore a wide variety of city vehicles used in day-to-day operations including water valve trucks, sewer combo trucks, plows, front loaders and Brantford Transit and Brantford Lift buses. Emergency vehicles and first responders will also be available to ask questions and check out a police cruiser, fire truck and ambulance up close.

Attendees will not want to miss the Alpha Power Lifters attempt to pull a 72,000-pound rotator truck, which is one of the biggest and heaviest tow trucks out there!

In addition to all the big rigs, families can enjoy much more free family-friendly fun and entertainment and interactive activities including, community partner booths will be on-site, providing valuable information about their services, available to answer questions, and share information on how they contribute to the Brantford community and Just Dance Line Dance performance.

A variety of delicious food options will be available for purchase. A refillable water station will be available to those who bring their own reusable water bottles.

Free parking will be available in the Earl Haig Family Fun Park parking lot (101 Market Street, South), and Market Street Parkade (59 Icomm Drive). Residents are encouraged to bike to the event and take advantage of the free supervised bicycle valet available during the event. Brantford Transit is also available to attendees looking for transportation. Schedules, routes and rates are available online at Brantford.ca/Transit. Brantford Lift is also available and must be pre-booked by Friday at 9:30 p.m. by calling 519-752-4444 or emailing brantfordlift@brantford.ca.

Help fill a truck! Event organizers will be collecting non-perishables and school safe snacks such as granola bars, apple sauce, fruit cups, etc. for the Gifts of the Heart, a not-for-profit organization that feeds over 250 children in local Brantford schools. Donations are greatly appreciated to help support this great cause.
