City encourages physical activity for Community Better Challenge

Community Better Challenge

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford, in partnership with local organizations, invites you to get moving during the month of June by joining PartcipACTION’s 50th Anniversary that encourages Canadians to get active and record their physical activity in search of Canada’s Most Active Community. The community with the highest recorded minutes will be awarded $100,000 towards local physical activity initiatives. There will also be prizing for the most active community in each province and territory.

“Now more than ever, physical activity is essential for Canadians' mental and physical health,” says Mayor Kevin Davis. “That’s why we are pleased to announce the Community Better Challenge that not only encourages physical activity, but also demonstrates the abundance of recreational opportunities in Brantford. Whether it’s exploring our trails, or joining a virtual yoga class - every minute counts to support the mental and physical health of our community.”

A variety of free virtual and in-person activities, with public health guidelines in place will be available throughout the City thanks to our partners at the Neighbourhood Associations, Woodview Mental Health and Autism Services, Equal Ground Community Gardens, Laurier Brantford, Community Living Brant, and the Neighbourhood Hub program among others. A full list of activities including, yoga, disc golf, guided trail walks, a 30 day activity passport, virtual programming and much more available at brantford.ca/CommunityBetterChallenge.

We would like to encourage members of the community to record your physical activity from June 1 until June 30, 2021 in the ParticipACTION app available for download through the App Store and Google Play. Every minute tracked supports our local community score and brings us that much closer to being awarded Canada’s Most Active Community. Learn more about the Community Better Challenge at participATION.com.

While it is important for residents to get active, we encourage everyone to continue to follow all COVID-19 safety protocols and local public health guidelines.
