City expands red light camera program with four new locations
BRANTFORD, ON – As part of the City of Brantford’s ongoing commitment to road safety, four additional red light cameras will become operational on July 1, 2025. The new locations expand on the initial rollout of the red light camera program launched in 2023 and are aimed at reducing serious injuries caused by red light running.
The four new red light camera locations include:
- Lynden Road at Wayne Gretzky Parkway
- West Street at Fairview Drive
- Dunsdon Street at Park Road North
- King George Road at Charing Cross/Queensway Drive
These locations were selected based on traffic safety data, including collision frequency and severity. The full list of active red light camera locations in Brantford is available at Brantford.ca/RedLightCameras.
Red light cameras are automated traffic enforcement tools that detect and photograph vehicles that enter intersections after the traffic signal has turned red. Each camera captures two images: one of the vehicle entering the intersection and another as it proceeds through. These images are reviewed by provincial offence officers, and if a violation is confirmed, a ticket is mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle. The set fine for running a red light is $325.
It is both unsafe and illegal to enter an intersection after the light has turned red. The red light camera program is intended to discourage red light running, reduce aggressive driving, and improve safety for all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists.
