The City encourages physical activity for ParticiPACTION Community Better Challenge

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford invites the community to get moving during the month of June by joining the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge that encourages Canadians to get active and record their physical activity in search of Canada’s Most Active Community. The community with the highest recorded minutes will be awarded $100,000 towards local physical activity initiatives. There will also be prizing for the most active community in each province and territory. As part of the City of Brantford’s Empowering Youth Strategy, free programming will be offered to keep youth ages 11 to 17 moving including; basketball, skipping and yoga in June. Pre-registration is required.

“We are looking forward to seeing community youth join the Community Better Challenge, meet other youth, and have fun,” says Kim Rolson, Community Recreation Supervisor for the City of Brantford. “It will be wonderful to see youth connecting in-person and being active.”

A variety of free in-person activities will be available at Woodman Park Community Centre, located at 491 Grey Street, for youth ages 11 to 17 such as Yoga on Monday’s from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for four weeks beginning June 6, Basketball on Tuesdays from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for four weeks beginning June 7, 2022, and Jumpsations jump rope program on Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for five weeks beginning June 1, 2022.

The City also invites members of the community to record their physical activity from June 1 until June 30, 2022 in the ParticipACTION app available for download through the App Store and Google Play. Every minute tracked supports our local community score and brings us that much closer to being awarded Canada’s Most Active Community.
