City of Brantford celebrates Bike Month

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford is encouraging residents to include cycling in their daily routine in celebration of Bike Month this June. A number of activities are being offered to help residents get excited about cycling. From Slow Roll Community Rides every Tuesday, to Bike to School Week (June 13 to 17), to a month-long Community Scavenger Hunt, there is something for everyone to enjoy. There are a host of benefits to utilizing active transportation options like cycling that positively impact the community, including staying active, reduced traffic congestion, and an opportunity to explore our neighbourhoods from a different perspective.

“Bike Month is a great way to show residents the benefits of cycling,” said Kathryn Broadbelt, Transportation Planning Project Coordinator. “I encourage residents to hop on their bikes this month and participate in some of the great activities we have planned for their chance to win some fun prizes.”

“Bike Month is all about exploring the benefits of cycling and encouraging healthy and active lifestyles for our families and friends,” said Mayor Kevin Davis. “We look forward to residents taking advantage of our cycling infrastructure while participating in some of the great activities planned for June.”

With an increase in cycling activity this month, the public is reminded that bicycles are quiet vehicles making it very important to warn other cyclists, pedestrians and motorists of your riding intentions. Please remember to use your bell, horn, or hand signals to indicate that you are passing, approaching, or are close by. Additional cycling tips are available at brantford.ca/CyclingTips.
