Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis doing well following kidney surgery

Brantford, ON: The City of Brantford is pleased to report that Mayor Kevin Davis is resting comfortably following laparoscopic surgery this afternoon to remove his right kidney.

At the annual Kidney Walk on September 22nd, Mayor Davis announced that he was recently diagnosed with stage 1 renal cell carcinoma, a form of kidney cancer. During his remarks, Mayor Davis advised that the cancer was first detected in an MRI done in early July for an unrelated lower back issue, stressing the importance of early detection.

The Mayor will remain in hospital for 3 days, followed by a 3-6 week recovery period at home. He is not expected to undergo any other treatment and his prognosis remains excellent.

The Mayor and his family would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their good wishes and overwhelming support during this time.

During the Mayor’s absence, Mayor Designate John Utley will assume the Mayor’s responsibilities.
